Bear Creek Folk Festival

It is with a heavy heart that we must reschedule the 2020 Bear Creek Folk Festival until August 2021. We will miss gathering on the hill, listening to fantastic music from well-known names and hidden gems. We will miss celebrating the arts and the Grande Prairie community. And we will miss seeing so many happy faces as friends reunite for such a special weekend.

While we are deeply saddened to have to do this, we cannot in good conscience pursue a large-scale international event like ours this summer. Our festival brings together thousands of visitors from around Canada and beyond, and health concerns surrounding COVID-19 create too great of a risk. The safety and wellness of our attendees, volunteers, artists, and our community at large must remain our first concern. We are planning to be back on the hill August 13-15, 2021, and we look forward to the time when we can all safely come back together!

We are watching as things progress. Though a large, international event like our Folk Fest will not be possible this summer, if the situation improves enough, it is possible that we may still be able to hold some smaller (more local) events. If at all possible, we would love to be able to bring some form of musical summer cheer to Grande Prairie, and stay connected with our volunteer family. We will keep you all posted on what seems possible as we get closer.

There are also likely to be some volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in assisting with fundraising efforts (which, as you may imagine will be an important component of our next year).

With regards to the volunteer forms that you submitted– We will be re-issuing an updated volunteer form for the 2021 festival. We are hoping to have that available in early fall, but will keep you posted.

Thank you again for your support, both now and (for some of you) over all of our years. I will greatly miss seeing you out on the hill this summer. We deeply look forward to the day that we can safely draw the community back together and reunite our volunteer family in full-force to enjoy another amazing weekend of music and community vibes!

Until we have a new volunteer form available, if you’re interested in helping out in the interim, please email

  • Free entry to the festival
  • Meals (lunch and dinner) on Saturday & Sunday in our on-site festival kitchen.
  • Volunteer after party on Saturday, Aug 17 with exclusive concerts by some of our festival performers.
  • Souvenir volunteer T-shirt (to wear during shifts)
  • “Volunteer Tarp” on the hill—When off shift, join other volunteers on the Volunteer Only tarp.
  • New friendships and a fantastic good time!

Volunteers are expected to be available to work a shift on every day of the festival. Shifts on Friday-Sunday range from 3-5 hours each day of the fest, so you’ll have lots of time to enjoy music and other activities.

During the Festival weekend most volunteer roles are 12-15 hours over the three days (Friday-Sunday), plus 4 hours helping with setup or teardown. Thus, the minimum number of volunteer hours ranges from 16 – 19 hours (with some roles requiring less).

Children under 12 may attend the festival FREE of charge, but childcare arrangements must be made whilst parents are working volunteer shifts.

Shortly after applying you will get a confirmation email that we received your form. It may be a couple months until you find out what team/crew you’re placed on. It’s up to you and your assigned Crew Coordinator to determine which daily shifts you will work.
