Job Description:

Are you a self-driven people person? The Bear Creek Folk Music Festival is seeking a Volunteer Manager to work with the existing volunteer corps, recruit and manage more volunteers, engage the community throughout the year and facilitate, implement, collaborate and direct the 27 volunteer teams needed for the August 17-19, 2018 music festival located on Borstad Hill, in Muskoseepi Park.

Hours: Flexible (range from 2-14 hours per day depending on the month)

Seasonal: March 1, 2018 – August 31, 2018

Scaled Monthly Salaries:

March – $500

April – $1,500

May – $1,500

June – $2,000

July – $3,000

August – $3,300

As the Volunteer Manager, you will:

  • Continue to build and grow the volunteer corps to meet the needs pre-festival, during the festival and post-festival. As the ambassador and face of the festival for the volunteers, the Volunteer Manager is the driving force to inspire the volunteers of the festival.
  • Assign volunteers to appropriate tasks and ensure they feel engaged and informed
  • Work closely with the Festival Producer and help facilitate festival goals
  • Engage & organize volunteers to help with festival projects, events and fundraising throughout the year
  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment and attend community events to help create awareness and generate volunteer interest
  • Assess volunteer risk and mitigate through implementation of active screening measures
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings with volunteers individually and as teams
  • Liaise logistics between the Production Team, Festival Producer & Volunteers
  • Steward volunteer relationships with ongoing evaluation of volunteer roles
  • Implement a volunteer recognition program
  • Maintain the Volunteer database: track volunteer contact information and participation
  • Maintain effective communication and good relationships with currently volunteers, the Board, the Festival Producer, sponsors and other community relationships
  • Create awareness, understanding and compliance with volunteer program policies and procedures
  • Utilize all methods of communication to recruit and inform volunteers and the public about festival opportunities
  • Work with volunteer team managers, the Festival Producer, the Board and the Production Team to ensure all logistics, administrative and financial aspects of the festival has been assigned to an individual or team. Followup to ensure tasks are being completed.
  • Maintain a public presence and post on the Volunteers Facebook Group Page
  • Deliver two General Volunteer Meetings to engage, inform and rally the volunteers prior to the festival
  • Work with the Production Team and volunteers to facilitate the setup and teardown of the festival
  • Collaborate and direct the 27 volunteer teams during the festival Friday Aug. 17 – Sunday August 19, 2018. This will require you to be onsite from 9:00am – midnight each day from Thurs. Aug. 16 – Thurs. Aug. 23, 2018 from .
  • Coordinate, mitigate and assist the Volunteer Team Managers and other managers that are responsible for the different portions of the festival
  • Send reminder emails and updates to the volunteers about festival events, fundraisers, and the setup and teardown shifts (Volunteer Team Managers are responsible for sending shift volunteers their festival Fri-Sun. shift schedule)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • 2 years + of experience with direct responsibility for managing 10 or more people, of various ages. Equivalencies may be considered with a combination of work experience and education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and customer service skills
  • Excellent at public speaking
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assess different situations, and exercise strong problem solving skills in a fast paced and constantly changing environment
  • Sufficient physical strength (lift and carry up to 30 lbs), ability to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods of time and dexterity to perform the required work
  • Proficiency in Google Documents and Forms, Excel, database applications and computer operation
  • Valid Canadian driver’s licence
  • Use of own computer and printer
  • Use of own cell phone with text capabilities  
  • Use of own vehicle and gas
  • Use of own office/working space
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
